EASTER BATTLE REPORT!:
Ricky slept in so I battled ianp instead. Battle between the sorcerers of Tzeench and Tau. Both us were fairly ranged armies so it was a pretty intense battle. The one adjustment made that I'll complain about is that Ian's list, which was brand new to both of us couldn't kill vehicles so I fielded no vehicles against him. This was a pretty major problem as my army is pretty heavily based on moving around in transports and using powerful tanks. The battle happened non the less.
the first two round were each of us on opposite sides of the boards shooting each other. We commented on it being very civil war-y. Ian fielded only two squads, as opposed to my 8 or so, and they were powerful. The sorcerers alone proved to be a terrible thing because they could instant kill most of my units, including the heroes, and do it without even really trying.
Around the 3 round, my reserves came in but proved to be not that helpful. My kroots (Lizard men mercenaries for Tau) snuck in on the side of the board but didn't end up doing much. Ianp just moved away from them. They did end up getting me the one kill point of the game I got but other then that Ian pretty much wiped the floor with me.
Two things in my defense. One, I'm trying to play a very strategic army with Tau. Lots of moving around and getting into the right position. Two, Sorcerers are amazing. Too cast a spell that will kill any of my models, They need to pass a leadership test (Roll 2d6 and get it under 10. Not hard) then pass a ballistics test (Roll a 2+) then roll a wounding test (2+ again) this sounds like a lot but its all super easy to make. And my guys really don't have a defense against it. Tau has zero defense against magic and psychic powers beyond shooting the people down. So on top of this amazing spell, Ian had 4 sorcerers that could all cast it twice. That's 8 INSTANT DEAD spells a turn. It was narly.
Luckily Ian really liked the list so he'll probably play it again once he has some more anti vehicle stuff and I'm looking forward to a rematch. Although I've only beaten Ian once and it wasn't really a real game anyways. So the victory will be a sweet one.
The other nice thing about Tau, at least the way I play, is since its a more strategic army I lose more because of bad choices and placements rather then bad rolling so it's pretty easy to adapt and learn how you can do it better next time.
All in all though a very fun game and the new table is looking better every day. I'll have pictures on my facebook by the end of the day so keep an eye out. They're a little blurry but I don't have a real camera so I do what I can.
